Industrial Energy Efficiency in Ghana
Ghana is the 8th largest economy in Africa and has a population of 31 million people. Ghana is a developing country and industrialization is part of a rapid development goal like many other developing countries. Industry sector energy use will continue to increase in Ghana which will pose a challenge to both energy security as well as meeting its Paris Agreement goals stated in Ghana’s NDC. Ghana has committed to a doubling of energy efficiency improvement in its industry sector by 2030 subject to the provision of climate finance, technology, and capacity-building support from the international community.
Global Efficiency Intelligence has teamed up with UNIDO and local consulting consortium in Ghana to conduct a detailed study to assess the energy efficiency market potential in industrial sectors in Ghana. In this study we investigate the current energy and climate policy landscape for industry in Ghana, barriers and drivers to industrial energy efficiency and decarbonization in Ghana, international industrial policy best practices and how they may be applicable to Ghana, profile of energy use in industry and potential for energy efficiency and decarbonization of industry in Ghana.
