Deep Decarbonization Roadmap for the U.S. Industry
According to IPCC, the industry sector accounts for about a quarter of the world’s total anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (after allocating electricity-related emission to end use sectors). This is by far greater than GHG emissions from the Building and Transportation sector. The United States is the second largest emitter of GHG emissions accounting for around 15% of world’s GHG emissions. The U.S. industrial sector accounts for around one-third of total primary energy consumption in the country and is a key sector to address in order to achieve deep decarbonization of the economy by mid-century.
Global efficiency Intelligence, LLC has partnered with US DOE’s AMO and several national labs (LBNL, NREL, ORNL, ANL) and American Council for Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) to investigate the challenge of achieving net-zero industrial GHG emissions by around 2050 and RD&D needs and gaps for deep decarbonization of manufacturing sector. We are also developing series of sector-specific roadmaps for deep decarbonization of key energy-intensive industrial sectors. This work was requested by the U.S. Congress.
